FAMILY WELLNESS
Family Mental Wellness Check-In
A simple family check-in can create space for honest conversations, help everyone feel heard, and make it easier to notice when someone may need extra support.
Make space to check in
Family check-ins do not have to be formal or serious. They can happen in the car, at dinner, before bed, or during a quiet moment together. The goal is not to solve every problem — it is to stay connected.
1. How are you really doing?
Give everyone a chance to answer in their own way. Some people may want to talk more than others.
2. What has felt hard lately?
Ask about stress at school, work, friendships, responsibilities, changes, or anything else that has been taking up mental space.
3. What has been going well?
Notice strengths too. Ask what felt good, what made someone laugh, or what they are proud of from the past few days.
4. What would help right now?
Sometimes the answer may be advice. Other times it may be rest, help with a task, time together, space, or simply being listened to.
5. Is there anything we should come back to?
Not every conversation has to happen immediately. Let family members know it is okay to come back to something later when they are ready.
Try one simple question:
“What is one thing you want me to know about how you’re doing right now?”
If someone needs more support
Reach out to a trusted healthcare or mental health professional when concerns continue or begin interfering with everyday life. If you are concerned someone may be thinking about suicide, call or text 988. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
